Every January 17, in the small Spanish village of San Bartolome de Pinares, the townspeople wait until nightfall, then saddle up their horses, donkeys, and mules and ride them through raging bonfires. The tradition — part of the Saint Anthony purification ceremony — dates back some 500 years.
